About CivicsPrep
An independent citizenship test prep platform. Not affiliated with USCIS or the U.S. government.
Why this site exists
CivicsPrep was built by a web publisher with a background in test prep β the same category as DMV practice tests, CDL exam prep, and similar sites where accurate, well-organized study material makes a meaningful difference in people's lives.
When researching the citizenship test prep space, the same problem kept appearing: most sites were cluttered, outdated, or buried under so many ads that actually studying was frustrating. People preparing for one of the most significant moments of their lives deserved something cleaner and more accurate. So CivicsPrep was built to be exactly that.
The goal is simple: give every person preparing for the U.S. naturalization civics interview the best free study tools available, with no fluff, no paywalls on the core material, and no tricks.
Who is behind it
CivicsPrep is an independently operated web platform. It is not a government agency, immigration law firm, or nonprofit. It is a privately built educational tool, maintained by a small team focused on test prep publishing.
We are based in the United States. You can reach us at hello@civicsprep.com β we read every message and respond within 1β2 business days.
CivicsPrep is also active on X (Twitter) as @cntrlaltsleep, where we share updates about the site and the naturalization process.
How the content is sourced
Every civics question on CivicsPrep comes directly from official USCIS public domain materials β the same question bank that USCIS officers use during naturalization interviews. These materials are published by the U.S. government at uscis.gov/citizenship and are free for public use.
We do not invent, paraphrase, or alter the official questions and answers. When USCIS updates its question bank β as it did in October 2025 with the new 128-question version β we update CivicsPrep to match. The answer explanations are written by CivicsPrep to help applicants understand the material, not just memorize it. These explanations are clearly labeled and separate from the official USCIS answers.
You can verify every question and answer on CivicsPrep against the official USCIS study materials at uscis.gov/citizenship. If you ever spot a discrepancy, please contact us and we will correct it immediately.
What we cover β and what we don't
CivicsPrep covers the civics portion of the U.S. naturalization test: the 128-question 2025 version and the 100-question 2008 (legacy) version. Study tools include practice tests, flashcards, an interview simulator, and audio study mode.
We do not cover:
- The English reading and writing portions of the naturalization test
- The N-400 Application for Naturalization or any other immigration form
- Immigration law, visa categories, or case-specific advice
- Appointment scheduling, case status, or USCIS processing times
For those topics, the official source is uscis.gov. For immigration legal advice, consult a licensed immigration attorney.
What's free and what's premium
All core study tools on CivicsPrep are completely free and do not require an account: practice tests, the full question library, flashcards, and the interview simulator.
A one-time Premium upgrade ($14.99) removes all advertisements and unlocks Audio Study Mode β every question and answer read aloud, useful for studying while commuting, cooking, or exercising. Premium is optional. The free tools cover everything you need to pass the civics test.
We are transparent about how the site is monetized: free users see ads served by Google AdSense. Premium users do not. There are no hidden fees, subscriptions, or upsells.
Accuracy commitment
We take accuracy seriously because the stakes are real for our users. If you find an error β a wrong answer, an outdated question, a broken feature β please tell us immediately at our contact page. We treat content corrections as urgent and fix them as quickly as possible.
That said: while we work hard to keep everything accurate, CivicsPrep is not an official government resource. Always verify critical information against the official USCIS materials before your interview.
